|Outreach Group:||Louisiana Tech University Chapter of SPS|
|Sponsoring Institution:||Louisiana Tech University|
|Description:||The Lousiana Tech chapter of SPS sponsors a number of outreach opportunities each year, including visits to local schools, an annual "Halloween in Railroad Park" demonstration and trick-a-treating, science fair judging and workshops, and public astronomy viewing in conjunction with our Astronomy Club.
SPS demonstrations have been held at both elementary and middle schools. SPS demonstrations are generally during the school year. Astronomy viewings are possible year round depending on weather conditions. Visits to schools and demonstrations are free.
The Louisiana Tech IDEA Place is a hands-on science center, similar to the Exploratorium or Sci*Port. IDEA Place programs are aimed at various age groups. Home school groups are welcome for both. It hosts a number of programs each year including summer science camps, "Sci Fri" programs that allow parents to have an evening out (twice per month), teacher workshops, and open visits by the public. Costs vary depending on the program. Visits to the IDEA place during regular operating hours have a minimal cost of $1 each per student (teachers and/or chaperones free).
