Great Book

I used this book during my Thermal Phisics course
at Berkeley, and it was great. The derivations are
concise and the explanations are thorough. I
really enjoyed the excersises in this book as
well, they follow the subject matter of each
chapter very well, elucidating many of the
inticacies that a first time stat mech student
encounters.

We used this text for our Stat Mech course and I really like
it. It can be a little dense in some places, but overall it's
readable and just about the right level of difficulty for a
senior physics course. There are many excellent problems
included. Definitely a worthwhile investment...

Still a classic

Rarely does a senior professor encounter a text that still works after the test of many years.  Kittel's Thermal Physics is such a work.  The fundamentals are clearly presented, the problems are still relavant, and students find the book very readable.
