I am a Master''s student at the Tech in the EE department, but a member of the SPS as I attended the 1st meeting and enjoyed free pizza! But SPS has been a very active organization at the Tech, with loads of opportunities and activities for the students, acting like a "Mass Mentor". The faculty esp. Dr Lee Sawyers, Dr. Dobbins and Dr. Neeti Parashar whom I know are very humble and always eager to help. I appreciate SPS'' efforts in helping the students out with resources like the Nucleus. I request SPS to extend such help to the MS students like me on the same lines so that we also have opportunity to take up summer internships!

Our Physics Department is wonderful!  The Professors are all so accessible and very ready and willing to help!  The focus of the department is not just research but making sure knowledge is passed on to the students.

The physics department at MHC is unquestionably excellent. I value the fact that most of the classes are challenging enough to prepare us for grad school or physics related jobs. One year we had five students (about 50% of the physics majors) go on to physics grad school at places like Columbia, Stanford and Harvard. Knowing that their expectations are high, professors encourage us to ask questions when we are confused and go out of their way to be accessible as mentors and teachers after class. I have made friends for life and learned how to tackle the hardest physics problems.

A lot of personal attention is awarded to students since there are more faculty members than majors in our department.  The research here at Princeton is top-notch and we get to write two Junior Papers and a Senior Thesis as undergraduates.  These involve working one on one with a faculty member of the student's choice.  The library is a comfortable place to sit and read the latest Nature or Science articles and there are little rooms with chalkboards for hard-core physics studying.  The students here at Princeton always band together for problem sets and we just rejuvinated a Princeton SPS club this fall.

I agree with all of U's comments, but I just had to add a few of my own. The physics professors in our department are more than accessible; they have a genuine interest in their students. They do much to encourage undergraduates to join the department and even more to guide them to success in their studies. As one of my professors explained to our class, one of the main considerations in designing the second-year curriculum was that it should be fun and interesting whenever possible. It is a pleasure to study physics here.

The students in the University of Louisville Department of Physics are excellent!  They
involve themselves in all aspects of department life, from weekly SPS meetings to sprucing
up the halls of the Natural Sciences building, from school outreach and recruiting to
laboratory trips.  It's a great team!

The most enjoyable part of my physics experience at UofL is the friendliness of the faculty.  I have taken classes at a different school where the professors saw their job as one of punishment more than instruction.  I definitely have learned more at UofL.  Having the best SPS chapter in the region doesn't hurt either.

Not only is what everyone else has said about our physics department true, but that individual attention even applies to intro-level freshman physics classes, like the amazing one I'm in now.  Other good places to sit around and do problem sets are the building lobby (nicely furnished with a computer cluster and lots of study space), and pretty much any hallway -- the walls are covered with floor-to-ceiling chalkboards.  And of course, midnight problem sessions (and snowball fights -- kinetics, anyone?) rock

I would have to say that the faculty and fellow students are the strongest parts of our department.  The students have a lounge that is relaxed and supportive to everyone who ventures in it.  The faculty are also accessible and generally helpful.

Well there are so many things to say, but my favorite is the friendly atmosphere.  If you are walking down that physics wing looking for help with an assingment, you will get it from someone.  And in the physics lounge if you are hungry at all, physics students are always food givers, the teachers sometimmes have an extra hot chocolate packet lying around too.  
WE may look dorky, but one thing is for sure, we smell better than that bio hall way.

The lounge atmosphere and comraderie is definetly great at Juniata...but we also get to play with liquid nitrogen for mall demonstrations and our annual Physics Phun Night for the local kids!  We've had the President and Dean of the college on the infamous Bed O' Nails...and who can not like crushing oil cans and making fireballs in the name of science?

I am proud to be a member of SPS at Juniata.  We host fun community events to show how "phun" physics is.  Juniata's physics lounge is an excellent place to find other physics students, homework help, advice and of course food.  Juniata's friendly faculty are always around and ready to help as well.  The physics wing here is my home away from home.

The University of Louisville department is outstanding because it is not too big and not too small. It is small enough to provide individual attention, but large enough to have opportunities for everyone. Our SPS chapter is active and always helpful to new students. Our faculty provide one on one attention when it is needed. Fun is had all around.

What rocks?  Small class sizes (most upper level courses have a hand full of students) and we always get to go on fun field trips to visit the ungodly expensive equipment that PSU has.  Moreover, the department buys dinner.  Hooters anyone?

I would have to agree with all the other Juniatians... JC has great class sizes.  It was great to work in a group of four to learn some of the Upper Level physics stuff.  Not to mention class meetings at the bar.  The small size also made the group who hangs out in the physics lounge a family.... MISS YOU GUYS! :)

What do I like about the Juniata physics department??  The better question to ask is what I DON'T like about it!  That answer is simple:  BEING AWAY FROM IT.  I'm studying abroad in France right now, and I have to say that I miss the JC physics department quite a bit.  The supportive community atmosphere (that includes the students and the faculty), the philosophic debates, the motivating mascots (what's shakin', Baldy?), the list goes on and on...let me just say this, in accordance with what Abby said:  you really miss it when you're away!

SPS at the Univ of Lou must be the best. I am not a physics major, but I joined and absolutely love it! This organization discusses physics in demos, lectures by professors and students, and in toys in the weekly meetings. There are always SPS activities going on. These include movie nights, showing off our department and SPS to new and current student, judging local school science fairs, giving physics demos and dicussing them to elementary and middle schools, picnics, stargazing, and many more. The one activity I always look forward to is the semester trip. Every semester we take a trip to a Natl Lab or some other institution where physics is a very inportant part of the work. Often, these trips get some kind of funding.
However, the best thing about our SPS are the students and faculty supporters. They are all wonderful and great sources of help.

UofL's SPS kicks major booty!  We have a nice sized group of dedicated students, grad and undergrad, that have made us an Outstanding Chapter for 6 YEARS!  Our weekly meetings are excitement packed, from nifty demos, to faculty memebers talking about their research.  We also go on fun fun trips.  Last spring, a group of about 15 students went to Argonne and Fermilab.  Oh baby, it doens't get any better than UofL!

The best part about physics on campus is the people involved with it. We have an excellent staff, my peers are great people, we have our own awesome lounge, and, I finally got a shelf for my desk!

Couldn't really put it any better then what has already been said.  A great SPS group that consists of outstanding people and weekly topics that could engage anyone interested in Physics.

The number one thing i like about the physics department at Juniata College is that i can procrastinate an assignment that is due in seven hours the next morning and there will be someone there with me, in the same situation.  Now that's a comfortable feeling.

UofL's SPS program has an extraordinary advantage over all other SPS chapters. The dedication and hard work which I see in all my physics professors tells me that UofL is unique. What pushes us forward is the interest that students have in SPS and the activities which makes learning physics possible.

I think the Louisville SPS chapter has a real sense of community.  Events are constantly planned throughout every semester so there's really no excuse to not get involved.  And nothing says sophistication like twenty or so people talkin' physics over a box of wine...

When one looks at a department, what does one want from it? Well I guess with a good program like Physics at UOFL, the Professors in this department, and ofcourse the Physics students along with a SPS chapter which has won the Best Chapter of the year 6 years in a row. Nothing gets better than this. Thats it. Wow! wait a minute. The list does not end here. The ongoing research in Condensed Matter and High Energy Physics, Interdepartmental research work and the number of grants this department gets due to these projects. What else one would want in the department? I think we have got it all. And so UOFL Physics department is the best. No questions about it.

The University of Louisville Physics Department is outstanding.  THe faculty is great, there are loads of research experiences for undergraduates, and we're a really tight group of students because we have such an awesome SPS chapter!

The department is great!!! The profs are excellent and make class fun.  Also, the other students are always there to help you if you need anything.

My favorite part of our department is all the one on one time I have with my professors.  The professors know all their student's names. Also many of the professors in our department put in longer hours then required, some are even in their offices on weekends.

It is evident that our physics dept is one of a kind by just looking at our posts in the last 24 hrs.  We are a small college (1500 students) in "God's Country," PA, yet we have managed to pull through, with what is now 15 posts (three of which became their own threads) in less than 24 hours.  I asked my dept to go for the gold with this little contest, and they came through.  Very few places could someone get such a great response.  My colleagues ROCK!!!  I love you guys (tear).

Juniata must be a remarkable school to let an unusual but motivated student like myself be president of its SPS Chapter. What sets us apart is the community spirit that comes together in our lounge and in our extracurricular activities. I have done any number of crazy things such as: taken out for drinks by professor(s); face painted on by professors' children; caused many explosive noise disturbances during late night "Study Sessions"; and in some instances put my life in the hands of the knowledge imparted to me by amazing professors - whom surely must be amazing to have taught me well enough to keep me alive these last four years.

The faculty and staff of this Physics Department share a friendly and open outlook toward undergraduage students. This has fostered an active SPS society with weekly meetings that are both fun and informative. I feel the sharing of interests with both students and faculty makes this a great place to be engaged with physics.

I feel that Juniata has one of the greatest physics departments around. They offer a lot of one on one time with the professors so you understand the material but we also have Dr. Siems! Even though the physics department has a great understanding and knowledge of physics they also have great advising skills. I have heard about many complaints about advisors but never any from the physics department. They really know what they are talking about in almost every thing.

We have an active and fun SPS chapter here at  UofL that has hosted many zone meetings and continues to be an Outstanding Chapter for 6 years running. Our SPS group entertains guest speakers from around the country and visits research laboratories at universities and national labs in order to provide its members with a comprehensive view of the exciting opportunities in research physics today.

The most important thing is being student to a faculty who cares.  UofL has a wonderful staff which makes all of my classes an enjoyable experience.

The physics department at Juniata College has the best lounge on campus and there are always people there to help you with homework.

UofL's got to be the best--heck, I graduated from there in 2002, and I still keep track of what's going on. And, after a day of Law School classes, physics majors are normal, sane, and fabulous by comparison!

Juniata has a great physics department that is usually available for helping, even when they are supposed to be going home!  Every one gets the time they deserve and the professors expect our best in return.

When it comes to educational value, the physics department at Juniata College is definitely a cut above the rest. There is no beating the quality and caring nature of the instructors in this fantastic program. With the knowledge and personal attention I have recieved from this department, I credit present academic success at the Pennsylvania State University as well as the opportunity to have participated in research for the Argonne National Laboratory.

Bottom line: You cannot beat Juniata for physics education.

The Physics Lounge, though across campus from my dorm, has become my second home by choice!  So many people come in for help on their homework, or just to listen to music and have a good time with the nerds.  The environment can't be beat, and it's the best place for the die-hard workers to burn the 4am oil.

Juniata is full of wonderful people, and the Physics Department is no exception.  The professors are wonderful, always encouraging students to think, and even take the time to show us neat things that can be done with physics.  I have learned a great deal from the professors, and have made some really great friends.  Juniata attracts an awesome group of people, and the physics department is close enough to practically be called a 'family'.  Juniata Rocks!!!

What I enjoy most about the physics dept. is the quality of education we receive.  I will be one of the first ones to admit that physics is at times (many, many times) frustrating and if not almost annoying, but I am also a chem major, not physics.  Even with my 'passion' (I guess you can call it) not being in physics, I have learned to respect and understand the concepts.  This is because of the one-on-one help and hours of solving problems from our professors, as well as our group tutor (yay Barry!) and TAs from our labs. It is reassuring to know that you can walk into the physics wing with a question and upperclassmen will stop what they are doing to help explain the problem, no matter what time of day (or night) it is.

The Louisville Physics Department is filled with hard working students as well as a cheerful staff and faculty.  The SPS weekly meeting adds a sense humour to the seriousness and rigor one might experience with Physics.  SPS is a wonderful addition to my week.

The physics dept at Juniata rocks my socks off because of the extraordinary amount of motivation we've all got to win the vast assortment of rainbow-colored pens and glasses. After all, the only thing better in life than rainbow colored glasses is winning them through SPS...and the JC physics dept, of course.

I am not a physics student, but I greatly enjoy the physics area.  The lounge itself is a great place to work, and the distractions therein are both moderate, short, and sufficient to maintain sanity... Assuming sanity is any sort of priority among us.  Listening to the physicists in the area has convinced me that I shall go for a physics minor, possibly even, if I am so motivated and can get funding, a physics major.  It is obviously very attractive, and the theoretical stuff is quite fun for philosophic banter.

I like the physics department at University of Louisville because they have such a strong SPS chapter.  The chapter sends me info on events that sound appealing to me, such as a proposed trip to visit Brookhaven National Labs.  Also, there is a Foucault pendulum here on campus that works.  This may or may not be due to the involvement of the physics department, but I came from a school with a similar pendulum that had been broken for years, and its state was somewhat of an embarrassing to the physics dept there.

I love it here at Juniat College. The physics lounge is a great place to hang out and do homework in. There are always people to talk to and compare notes with. I think our department is very good and the profs. are always around if you have any questions.

Juniata Physics is the best. Why would anyone want to learn physics somewhere else? Who knows? I sure don't. Besides, the one profs life has just been changed because of a notebook. It is inspiring. The Physics department at JC is so good, it makes up for the lousy food!

The Juniata physics department has given me a real understanding of physics after high school.  From crazy study groups, liquid nitrogen ice cream and excellent problem help, I feel that I am in the right major.

Here at the University of Louisville, we have a great physics department, with engaging professors and determined students.  More importantly, we know how to make physics fun! And let us not fail to mention our strong SPS chapter--a vital component in making our physics department great.
