So at Purdue we have a fairly incompetant physics advisor. Coupled with that is a very strong beauracracy. Now, we've filed a complaint and the department head is seeming fairly receptive. However, its looking like they're going to wait until the next time classes are scheduled to see how badly she screws up again. The problem is that her incompetance is a central issue that I'm fairly certain encompasses a vast majority of her personality. She assumes she knows best, and likes to tell the students to be quiet and let the adults do whats best for them. |

While I'm not familiar with the specifics of the bureaucracy involved, it sounds like you need to prove to the administration that this is a major issue that a lot of people are affected by. If you were to, say, collect a substantial number of signatures to prove that a lot of physics majors are dissatisfied with the way things are being done, that might make them more receptive to taking action. |

My strategy: self-advise. If the information that you need is not made availible then make requests to the proper people. I look on the net. If you don't know who or what department to make a request to then ask around. |
