PennyLee 7 Posts	as i was reading some introductions i was very excited to see so many physics people interested in dance. its one of my favorite ways to excersize (along with hatha yoga) and stay in shape. down here in texas, we two step alot, but i also ball room dance, swing (lindy hop, west coast....) and salsa (although, i was not born with the hips nor rhythm that alot of others have!). i cant wait to learn the merengua this semester. but, anyone else interested in swapping dance stories of tips, come on! Like admin...way back in the day I used to do a lot of latin dancing, merengue and salsa (Last summer). Now not much time for dancing :( Although I do have plans to go latin dancing this weekend with fellow physics pal and partner in crime. Those who know us, know we will have a good time, it should be quite fun :) We are both into dancing her swing and me latin, so we should make quite a duo, if I ever get my act together to go dancing with her. Well for all those of you who love dancing, Rock on!

My own dance experience centers around swing (east coast, lindyhop, some bal), and it's the perfect let-it-all-go break from school :). I've also picked up some ballroom (waltz, foxtrot, tango) and Latin from the people I dance with--variety truly is the spice of life :). Lindyhoppers in the southeast, this is a plug for the Knoxville Lindy eXchange (KLX) in the fall--we've got live bands and great venues. Talk to your clubs :). The Admin needs to get over this "non-physics background" holdup and just accept that he's as much of a nerd as the rest of us. End of story. One of the best feelings? Being at a dance club or wherever and watching the look of astonishment in your partner's eyes as you say what field you're in and he realizes that you (yes you, you sexy dancin' female) are actually rather smart. NicoleG 8 Posts	Ok, that can go two ways... 1) They get the awesome shocked look and are really interested in getting to know you or 2) They get this shocked look on your face and leave (they get intimidated.) PennyLee 7 Posts	it definitely helps. no matter what kind of dance you do, or if you have had formal training or street training or if you are quite lucky and just have the rhythm in your hips already-- the others will help. i have found (how dumb does that sound....?) that each new dance that i learn helps me with my other dances. they all basically have the same steps with different tricks. but if you can, dance classes are fun, and an awesome way to meet people!
