Greetings everyone. While this site is a student site, and the intent of the journal forum was to provide students doing research and internships an opportunity to document their experiences, I couldn't help getting in on the fun. Let me first introduce myself. My name is Dave Donnelly, and I'm the editor of this site. My job as editor has been made extremely easy by a large number of other talented people who have been involved. Some of those people have posted journals in this forum. I am a physics faculty member at Texas State University in San Marcos, TX (redundant, I know), and I have been active, both locally and nationally, with SPS for the last ten years or so. One of the things I had decided I would like to do this summer is devote some time to the Nucleus to accomplish a few of the things we haven't quite gotten around to yet. To that end, I approached the SPS folks about spending a few weeks at ACP, and was given the go-ahead. After finishing teaching summer school last Friday, my family and I set out on Saturday to drive to Maryland from Texas. The drive proceeded pretty uneventfully. The kids are seasoned road-trippers (we drove to Florida AND California in separate trips last summer), so they behaved pretty well. We passed the time listening to the fifth Harry Potter book on CD. It seems like they're getting darker with every book. After 11 hours of driving on Saturday and 15 hours on Sunday, we finally arrived in College Park. We are staying in a student condo that is vacant for the summer. It's a 2-bedroom unit, so there is plenty of room for the kids and us. It also has a kitchen, which means we can cook our own food instead of eating out every night (gets old and expensive for three weeks). My first day at ACP has gone well. I got my office, and got started with ideas for the site. The upgrade came out today, and we have been fixing some minor bugs. If any of you have ideas for the site, please make sure and let someone know and we will try to incorporat them. That's about it for now. I will try to post something here every day and let you know what I've been up to.
Stay out of trouble.
Dave
