University of Colorado at Boulder
Science Teacher Preparation Program

Teacher licensure programs ensure rigorous content preparation and extensive fieldbased practicum experiences. At CU Boulder, programs leading to a Colorado teaching license are available for undergraduates, for postbaccalaureate students, and for candidates pursuing a master's concurrently with the license. Master's level programs are also available for teachers with three or more years experience who wish to obtain an advanced Colorado teaching endorsement in bilingual education, English as a second language, or as a reading specialist.

The School of Education at the University of Colorado at Boulder (CU-Boulder) offers these programs leading to elementary or secondary Colorado teacher licensure:
  • Undergraduate and Postbachelor Elementary Education--Students in this
program earn a license to teach kindergarten through sixth grade.
  • Undergraduate and Postbachelor Secondary Education--Students in this
program earn a license to teach middle school through 12th grade in one of the
following: English, science, social studies, foreign language, or mathematics; or a
license to teach kindergarten through 12th grade in music.
  • Master's Plus (MA+) Secondary Education--Students in this program earn an MA degree in education plus a license to teach middle school through 12th grade
in one of the following: English, science, social studies, or mathematics.

All teacher education programs are designed to provide qualified and committed students with solid preparation in liberal arts, an academic discipline, and education.  The teacher education programs incorporate course work and field experiences designed to prepare students for the increasingly complex demands of teaching in a diverse society. The carefully sequenced methods courses are closely tied to experiences in the field, which provide teaching candidates increasing responsibilities, from working with individual students to handling instruction for a whole classroom during student teaching.
