Effective fall 2010, the Department of Physics offers the BS degree in Physics with a concentration in Physics Education. The prospective teachers follow this concentration as opposed to the one for pursuing the Ph.D. degree in Physics. Concomitantly, these prospective teachers follow a certification program at the College of Education. By the time they graduate, each one of the successful future teachers will meet all the required for certification, including passing the subject and general praxis exams.

Unquestionably, PTEC could immensely benefit our efforts by providing us with some resources. A nationally known systemic mentoring program, the Timbuktu Academy, is housed in the Department of Physics whose current chairman is the founder of the it. Hence, with scholaship funds, we will produce first class physics teachers who will mostly be African Americans, from the main  student constituency of the University that is a leading HBCU.
