Portland State University's Physics and Chemistry Departments and the Graduate School of Education are combining the culture of collaborative learning that has transformed teaching campus-wide with the Learning Assistant program for undergraduate physics and chemistry education and the Louise Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (LSAMP) to identify and mentor underrepresented students interested in secondary teaching.  Our intended PTEC focus is to fuse these parallel efforts into a unified push to train more physics teachers to answer our statewide shortage, with particular bridge building to draw from heretofore untapped communities.
