Here at the University of Maryland, we have a Physics Education Research Group, which is a combined effort of the Physics Department and School of Education to study the learning and teaching of physics at all levels from elementary school to the graduate level. Our program focuses includes both qualitative and quantitative research and relies heavily on video data of authentic classroom and learning environments.
Graduate degrees may be earned in physics or in education. We also offer a Physics Education track, that prepares students for a career as High School physics teachers, as part of our Undergraduate Physics major.
Membership in PTEC would help us to share successful programs, methods, and ideas, particularly through PTEC conferences and workshops. Membership in PTEC would also help us advocate nationally for improving science teacher education.
