At Andrews University, the Department of Physics offers an interdisciplinary masters program MS: Mathematics and Science in collaboration with the Departments of Biology, Chemistry, and Mathematics . This course of study can be and has been configured to the specific needs of physics teachers.
We also offer a BS in Physics, a BS in Physics Education as well as a Physics Minor that are all approved by the State of Michigan for secondary teaching certification. We are in the process of applying for National Science Teachers Association accreditation, in collaboration with the Departments of Biology and of Chemistry and Biochemistry.
Our department is part of the Berrien County Math-Science Center of the Berrien Regional Education Service Agency. Our faculty teaches AP Physics to approximately 30 high school juniors in the Math-Science program from Berrien County Schools. This keeps our faculty up to date and able to mentor teachers-in-training realistically. It also gives teachers-in-training experience as TAs in the AP Physics classroom and lab before they do their formal supervised student teaching in area schools to fulfill their certification requirements.
