Our department is greatly interested in better supporting physics students who are interested in K-12 science education and  in encouraging more physics majors to consider such careers.  We have, in fact, already begun designing a physics education concentration (or track) within the physics major, which we hope to submit this coming fall to relevant college committees for approval. We expect the concentration will draw up courses offered by Smith's Department of Education and Child Study as well as a course of our own —  The Teaching of Physics — that will focus on results from physics education research, but we have many questions that still need to be addressed.
