| Description: | The Research Experience for Teachers (RET) program at Brigham Young University is an opportunity for secondary school teachers to be involved in a summer physics or astronomy project with the mentorship of a BYU faculty member. This program, which is sponsored by the National Science Foundation, pays teachers a stipend while they participate in research that will enhance their classroom teaching and revitalize their interest in physics and astronomy. Participants will also receive laboratory supplies they can use to improve their classroom environment. In addition to receiving training in research skills, participants meet together to discuss common interests in secondary physics and astronomy education. |

| Benefit Explanation: | Participants will receive a $4,500 stipend, round trip travel expenses to Provo, Utah, as well as room and board. In addition, selected students will be funded to travel to a regional meeting of the American Physical Society to give a presentation on their research results. |
