Description: Topics to be covered include types of radioactive decay, half life, radiation protection. All of these topics will be applied towards teaching about nuclear reactors including:
  • differences in the engineering of the Chernobyl type reactors versus US designed reactors;
  • the differences between nuclear reactors and nuclear weapons;
  • design features of radiation protection protocols;
  • the disposal of nuclear waste.
All activities are designed to use equipment and materials common to the HS physics classroom.
