| Description: | The primary aim of Columbia University's Summer Research Program for Science Teachers is to provide New York metropolitan area K-12 science teachers with sustained hands-on experience in scientific research so they can better understand the practice of science, better transmit to their students and fellow teachers a feeling for its practice. The program serves four major purposes: Science teachers from public, private, and parochial K?12 schools in the New York metropolitan area are invited to apply. Successful applicants must agree to participate in Columbia's program for two consecutive summers, eight weeks each summer. You will have a unique opportunity to participate in cutting-edge research in a Columbia University laboratory with University faculty, postdoctoral fellows, and graduate students. Opportunities are available in astronomy, biological sciences, chemistry, earth sciences, engineering, environmental sciences, genetics, materials science, medicine, microbiology, nanotechnology, physics, physiology, toxicology, and other specialties. You will gain hands-on experience in the practice of science that will better enable you to communicate to your students the excitement of scientific discovery and of being a scientist. |
