After five inactive years, the QuarkNet effort at the University of Florida is restarting. We have installed one cosmic ray detector at Buchholz High School. A second and third detector are in assembly now. The first will be installed in the physics building and run by undergraduates. The second detector will be installed at Gainesville High School. Two teachers attend semi-regular Wednesday afternoon meetings with three Saturday meetings scheduled for later this academic year. The group also plans to meet for two days in June of 2009 but continue with the regular meetings throughout that academic year.

The two teachers are both new to QuarkNet . All of the teachers that had previously been involved have moved from the area. The two undergraduates helping with the detector were students in Adam LaMee's (QuarkNet FSU) class and participants in the LHC Awareness Student Journalism Project. We hope that these students will visit the area schools and help troubleshoot detectors as the year progresses. The undergraduates are named: Kaitlin Cunningham and Nathaniel Amos.
