Recruiting the Next Generation of Science Teachers
Undergraduate students at the University of Arizona who wish to become middle or high school science teachers have a unique opportunity to pursue their goal in the company of other science majors and under the guidance of science educators and experienced mentor teachers. This article presents some of the methods used to recruit science majors into the program, as well as plans to increase the number of students recruited.

The 2009 PTEC Conference was held in Pittsburgh on March 13th and 14th, 2009. The theme was Institutional Transformation: How do we change departments and universities to embrace the mission of preparing tomorrow's teachers?

Student memberships in the American Association of Physics Teachers are available for pre-service teachers. Student member dues are only $25 per year ($0.07 per day) for which the students receive their choice of the American Journal of Physics or The Physics Teacher in print, electronic access to both journals, print and electronic access to Physics Today, discounts at the AAPT Store, and student registration at the two AAPT annual national meetings. In addition, student members can continue their student rate for three years after graduation to help launch their teaching career without an increased cost of membership.
To join, students should go to the AAPT homepage, www.aapt.org and click on the join button in the top menu bar.

NSF S-STEM Solicitation 2009
This program makes grants to institutions of higher education to support scholarships for academically talented, financially needy students, enabling them to enter the workforce following completion of an associate; baccalaureate; or graduate-level degree in science and engineering disciplines.
