This Physlet based simulation displays a ball colliding with a dumbbell on a frictionless horizontal plane. Each of the two dumbell masses is half the mass of the ball, but the center of mass of the dumbbell is close to one end. The user may choose between a perfectly elastic or inelastic collision. Motion may be stepped or traced.

This simulation is part of a larger collection of Physlet-based illustrations and tutorials developed for introductory physics.

Please note that this resource requires Java Applet Plug-in.
