This applet demonstrates the lens effect due to ripples in the water. At a point where the water surface curves downward, the light that emerges from that region will diverge and hence the image of the object beneath it will be diminished. On the other hand, at a point where the water surface curves upward, the light that emerges from that region will converge and hence the image of the object beneath it will be enlarged. The user can change the index of refraction of the water, the image, and the wave type.
