This applet demonstrates how astronomers measure the properties of extra-solar planets by detecting planetary transits and eclipses. The applet shows a planet in orbit around a star. A graph plots the total brightness of the star as the planet orbits around it. The user can control the star's radius, the star's temperature, the planet's radius, the orbital radius and the albedo.

This is part of a larger collection of applets by STEM Colorado focused mostly on topics in astronomy.

Please note that this resource requires at least version 1.4.2_06 of Java.
