This item is an interactive homework problem relating to harmonics. It features two strings with the same mass density stretched between the same posts. If the fundamental frequency of the first string is twice that of the second, what is the ratio of tension of the first string to the tension of the second.
The problem is accompanied by a "help" sequence designed to encourage critical thinking before attempting the mathematics. It is part of a larger collection of interactive problems developed by the Illinois Physics Education Research Group.
