This Physlet--one of many Java applets on physics phenomena--shows the waves produced by a moving object whose speed is controlled by the user. The circular waves radiate out, and the observed change in wavelength when the object is approaching or receding is clearly shown. The waves fade away nicely as time passes so the display stays uncluttered and easy to interpret. Clicking on the button "Example of Curricular Material" leads to an interesting exercise.
