Ejs Falling Rod Leaning on a Wall Model

written by Juan Aguirregabiria

The Ejs Falling Rod Leaning on a Wall model displays the dynamics of a falling rod that is initially leaning against a vertical wall.  The rod is dropped from rest while its end points are in contact with a vertical wall and a horizontal table.  Friction is neglected.  Fall times and the trajectory of the end of the rod and its center of mass are calculated.  The initial lean can be changed via a slider and using the Events checkbox pauses the simulation when the rod loses contact with the wall.  You can modify this simulation if you have Ejs installed by right-clicking within the plot and selecting "Open Ejs Model" from the pop-up menu item.

Ejs Falling Rod Leaning on a Wall model was created using the Easy Java Simulations (Ejs) modeling tool.  It is distributed as a ready-to-run (compiled) Java archive.  Double clicking the ejs_ehu_analytical_mechanics_rod.jar file will run the program if Java is installed.  Ejs is a part of the Open Source Physics Project and is designed to make it easier to access, modify, and generate computer models.  Additional Ejs models for Newtonian mechanics are available.  They can be found by searching ComPADRE for Open Source Physics, OSP, or Ejs.
