Particle Motion On A Vertical Loop Model

written by Wolfgang Christian

The Particle Motion On A Vertical Elliptical Loop model simulates the dynamics of a particle sliding on a track with friction.  The model displays the trajectory of the particle  and the normal, friction, and gravitational force vectors. Units are chosen such that mass m=1 and acceleration of gravity g=1.  In this simulation, the particle changes color and free-falls from the track if the force due to the loop points outward unless the grip option is enabled.  A second window displays the normal force as a function of angle.

The Particle Motion On A Vertical Elliptical Loop model was developed using the Easy Java Simulations (EJS) modeling tool.  It is distributed as a ready-to-run (compiled) Java archive.  Double clicking the  ejs_mech_newton_ParticleMotionOnVerticalEllipticalLoop.jar file will run the program if Java is installed.
