The PhysTEC website will be unavailable Friday evening through Saturday afternoon as electrical work occurs in the American Center of Physics server room. Down time will begin at 6PM Eastern Time on Friday. Service is expected to resume by 6PM on Saturday, July 30.

PhysTEC Special Initiatives

The Physics Teacher Education Coalition has a number of special initiatives that promote exemplary programs and research in physics teacher education.

"The 5+ Club"
"The 5+ Club" recognizes institutions that graduate 5 or more physics teachers in a given year.

Physics Content Knowledge Modules
Teaching Physics Modules are designed to help pre-service physics teachers in their preparation to be effective in the classroom.

Modeling Course
In Fall 2014 PhysTEC offered an online physics pedagogy course, Methods of Teaching Physics I: Modeling Workshop in Mechanics.

Learning Assistant Video Resource
The Learning Assistant Video Resource is a package of thematic case-based "video workshops" that are designed to supplement the University of Colorado's widely disseminated LA development program.

Professional Development Opportunities

Noyce Scholarship
From 2009-2015, the PhysTEC Noyce Scholarship program provided funding to pre-service physics teachers at six PhysTEC sites.

Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA)
The Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) gives the states much more authority to decide what to do with the money given to them by the Department of Education. One action they can take is to put money towards "teacher preparation academies" such as PhysTEC programs, which provide instruction at higher education institutions to develop high quality high school physics teachers.
