Collaboration within a community that includes undergraduate students, high school teachers, and university faculty is needed to effectively prepare the next generation of secondary science teachers. In this workshop we will investigate mechanisms by which university physics departments and inservice K-12 teachers can collaborate in the recruitment and preparation of future physics teachers. We will discuss our implementation of the teaching immersion course model. The model connects undergraduate science majors with local high school teachers and university faculty in a semester-long action research project. Two implementation sites, Seattle Pacific University and Chicago State University, will offer resources and perspectives.
