Wittenberg has a long and consistent history of producing and supporting high school physics teachers. Several recent developments have increased student interest in physics teaching careers.
In 2010, Wittenberg received a Robert Noyce Teacher Scholarship award to prepare science and math teachers for high-need school districts. Several physics majors have received support from this grant. In addition, Wittenberg was recently awarded a grant from the Choose Ohio First program for additional scholarship support for pre-service science and math teachers.
In response to student interest and these scholarship programs, a new Adolescent/Young Adult (grades 7-12) licensure program in Physics was instituted at Wittenberg two years ago.
In addition, the department has for many years taught physics and astronomy courses required for pre-service middle-school science and math teachers at Wittenberg and has been active in outreach to in-service teachers.
