| Abstract Title: | Research techniques for uncovering the hidden curriculum in the context of problem solving |

| Abstract: | Details of a hidden curriculum can be discovered by studying the intentions of the instructors and the actions of the students. This workshop will present research techniques that we use to target and uncover aspects of this curriculum in the context of problem solving. We will introduce the development, use, and analysis of interviews based on authentic artifacts to probe the factors that shape instructors' intentions. We will also introduce the use of an analysis rubric for written problem solutions to determine if student actions reflect these faculty intentions. |
