This item is a simulation of the Maxwell-Boltzmann speed distribution. A group of particles is launched with the same speed inside a closed container.  The simulation represents the random motion of gas molecules contained a box.  Students can view instantaneous particle velocities as well as a histogram that clearly shows the distribution curve.  Related context-rich tutorial questions are provided to promote critical thinking.  See Related items on this page for a link to the author's full collection of simulations on thermodynamics.
