published by BBC News India's Chandrayaan 1 spacecraft went into orbit around the moon on Saturday November 8, 2008. The spacecraft was launched on October 22. It is India's first mission to the moon. Parts of the goal of the mission include a 30kg probe that will be dropped into the lunar surface. The Probe (MIP) will record video footage on the way down and measure the composition of the Moon's tenuous atmosphere. It will also drop the Indian flag on the surface of the Moon. |
