Abstract Title: Real-Time Thermodynamic Experiments With High Resolution
Abstract: The heat equation is often taught in upper-level physics and engineering courses, but laboratory equipment that allows students to test this important concept are lacking. Existing educational apparatus for this experiment is either expensive or extremely limited. Recent advances in microcontroller systems and sensor technology allow the use of large numbers of high-precision sensors to obtain temperature information with high spatial/temporal resolution in real time, at relatively low cost. We demonstrate one such apparatus here.
