American Journal of Physics
written by N. David Mermin
Stirling's approximation to n! and other estimates are developed using elementary arguments. The aim is to shed light on why these approximations work so well. An elementary and useful representation of all the corrections to Stirling's approximation is given, with which even many experts are unacquainted.
