This interactive ThinkQuest website provides an introduction to the basic concepts of sound. Topics include the human ear and sound perception, the physics of sound, properties of sound waves, speed of sound, the Doppler Effect, and applications of sound used in real life.  A timeline presents the history of sound-related technology and the interactive sound lab provides several applets to experiment with the topics discussed.

This resource is part of a Physics Front Topical Unit.

Topic: Wave Energy
Unit Title: The Physics of Sound

This web site is a collection of tutorials on sound, with an emphasis on the basic physical properties of how humans hear.  Interactive java simulations let students create and hear their own sound wave patterns and take a journey through the human ear.  It is intended for middle and high school students.
