This lab will help students gain confidence with using a multimeter to measure voltage in assorted batteries, an LED, and a small "hobby" motor. This activity is one of a two-part set of labs on multimeter use. Materials are readily available, and may be used with either a digital or analog multimeter. The detailed diagrams enable novice learners to do set-up and take measurements.
This resource was developed to supplement the free textbook series All About Circuits, part of the Open Book Project. Each chapter is supplemented with related diagrams, photos, and detailed explanations of mathematical formulas.

Topic: Electricity and Electrical Energy
Unit Title: Applying Concepts of Electricity
A very good introduction to the multimeter, an electronic instrument that measures voltage, current, and resistance. It will help students become comfortable using either a digital or analog multimeter with batteries, an LED, and a simple "hobby" motor.Link to Unit:
