The University of Wisconsin La Crosse is in the process of restructuring its School of Education programs to be housed within content disciplines, and launched a new program in Fall 2011 called Secondary Teacher Education Preparation (STEP). In response to this change, the Physics department added a physics education major and has hired a new tenure-track faculty member in Physics Education Research (Jennifer Docktor) to lead this effort. The department plans to actively recruit students into physics teacher education and believes that PTEC membership is a valuable resource during this endeavor.
