Our department is experiencing a period of revitalization in terms of the faculty research activity and the number of physics majors. One area that we are targeting for continued growth is our physics certification program. We currently have two senior physics majors who will be certified to teach at the end of this year. We also have 3 freshmen through juniors who are pursuing certification. In contrast, we have not had anyone graduate with certification in the past ten years. In parallel with our undergraduate program, we have recently hosted several workshops for high school physics teachers to promote the Modeling Physics curriculum. We also host a local high school physics teachers' study group, providing a venue, food and drinks to help facilitate their meetings. The department has several faculty who are committed to advancing our teacher-training efforts.
