The department has a fledgling science teacher education program, having been in existence for five years.  We've had one student enroll to be a physics teacher.  It is hoped that through this association information can be gathered as to how to make physics teaching attractive to the high school graduate.  The IN state superintendent of public instruction recently changed the requirements for becoming teachers in that the teacher is to have a degree in physics, plus a minor in education to qualify as a teacher. It should also be noted that the institution has in the last 4-5 years just begun to offer a limited number of four year degrees, science (physics being one of them) teaching being a new four year degree.
