Auburn University's Physics department has a long standing tradition of excellence in teaching and a strong commitment to undergraduate and graduate physics education as well as support of K-12 education enhancement efforts. The department runs the Alabama Science in Motion program that provides ongoing professional development and hands-on science  kits for instruction in Alabama secondary schools. In addition, Auburn is a site for the statewide teacher professional development program, Alabama Math, Science and Technology Initiative (AMSTI). Auburn is committed to increasing the number of students prepared to teach secondary physics. Membership in PTEC will allow Auburn to benefit from the lessons learned by others in the coalition and contribute to the national goal of increasing the number of well prepared secondary science teachers.
