University of San Diego
The Department of Physics at the University of San Diego (USD) is a liberal arts physics department centered just north of the urban center of San Diego. USD Physics is in its initial stages of a program designed to train high school physics teachers prepped for the high-diversity and high-needs areas in southern California. In the summer of 2009, USD, lead by the physics department, was awarded $900,000 from the National Science Foundation to fund "The USD Noyce Teacher Scholars Program." This program will allow us to support a number of new science and mathematics teachers over the next five years. In addition, we are also in the initial stages of applying for a single subject credential program in physics, which will allow students to become California credentialed in a shorter period of time.
