Journal of the Learning Sciences

This journal is the official publication of the International Society of the Learning Sciences. It was founded in 1991. The editor is Janet Kolodner, who spoke at the Greensboro PERC, 2007. David Hammer is on the editorial board at this time. The journal is published on a quarterly basis.

As the title states, the goal of the journal is to discuss results from the learning sciences. Studied subjects range from K-20. There are consistent "strands" that are highlighted as appropriate in each issue, including transfer, design study, and complex systems.

JLS consistently contains articles relevant to PER. From 2002-2007 (the last year for which data exist), it has been in the top five education journals, as measured by number of citations. For example, David Hammer's paper comparing the utility of both misconceptions and p-prims when describing student reasoning was published here in 1996 - a shorter version geared toward a different audience also appeared in AJP that year.
