Assessment Instrument Information - Feb 20, 2013
This web page, maintained by Bob Beichner, contains an extensive list of science assessment instruments and affective/attitudinal surveys. Information about the assessments, their development, their use, and results is included. This web page also provides instructions for accessing the assessments and ways to help preserve the integrity of the instruments.
Brief Electricity and Magnetism Assessment - Feb 20, 2013
The Brief Electricity and Magnetism Assessment (BEMA), developed by Chabay and Sherwood, assesses student understanding of basic electricity and magnetism concepts. It is written for college-level calculus-based introductory physics courses.
Energy and Momentum Conceptual Survey - Feb 20, 2013
The Energy and Momentum Conceptual Survey (EaMCS), developed by Rosengrant and Singh, is based on investigations of students' difficulties in momentum and energy. It is designed for students in algebra- and calculus-based introductory courses.
Magnetism Conceptual Survey - Feb 20, 2013
The Magnetism Conceptual Survey (MCS), developed by Singh and Li, is designed to evaluate students' conceptual understanding of magnetism up to Faraday's law. It is written for algebra- and calculus-based introductory courses.
Quantum Mechanics Survey - Feb 20, 2013
The Quantum Mechanics Survey, developed by Singh and Zhu, is designed to evaluate students' conceptual understanding of quantum mechanics in junior-level courses.
Rotational and Rolling Motion Conceptual Survey - Feb 20, 2013
The Rotational and Rolling Motion Conceptual Survey, developed by Singh and Rimoldini, is designed to evaluate students' conceptual understanding of rotational and rolling motion. The survey is based on investigations of students' difficulties in introductory- and junior-level physics courses.
Symmetry and Gauss's Law Conceptual Evaluation - Feb 20, 2013
The Symmetry and Gauss's Law Conceptual Evaluation, developed by Chandralekha Singh, is a research-based multiple-choice test designed to evaluate students' conceptual understanding of symmetry and Gauss's Law. The test is appropriate for research in calculus-based introductory physics courses or upper-level undergraduate E&M courses.
Representational Variant of the Force Concept Inventory (R-FCI) - Feb 20, 2013
The R-FCI, developed by Nieminen, Savinainen, and Viiri, is designed to investigate students' ability to interpret multiple representations consistently in the context of four force concepts: Newton's first, second, and third laws, and gravitation. It is based on nine FCI items that have been redesigned using various representations (such as motion map, vectorial, and graphical).
Energy Concept Assessment - Feb 20, 2013
The Energy Concept Assessment, developed by Lin Ding, is designed to evaluate students' conceptual understanding of energy in algebra- or calculus-based introductory physics courses.
Attitudes and Approaches to Problem Solving Survey - Feb 20, 2013
The AAPS, developed by Mason and Singh, is designed to evaluate students' attitudes and approaches towards physics problem solving. The survey is based on investigations of responses from introductory physics students, graduate students, and faculty members. It expands upon the Attitudes towards Problem Solving survey (Marx and Cummings, 2007) to consider approaches to problem solving and different levels of problem solving expertise.
