Are you running Tracker in a 32-bit Java VM (find out by choosing the Help|Diagnostics|About Java... item)?  If not, you may have to downoad and install a 32-bit jre.

Hope this helps!  Doug

Hi Doug I also cannot access Quicktime on Windows. According to 'About Java' this is my Java version:

Java 1.7.0_75 (32-bit)

According to About Quicktime:

Quicktime for Java is not installed.

In fact, I have Quicktime Player for Windows version 7.7.6 installed. I did not see Quicktime for Java. I tried searching in Google, wound up here: https://developer.apple.com/quicktime/index.html but don't see it there either.

I should add that Xuggle won't import the .MOV files my son created on his iPhone.

Harold--It seems Apple REALLY doesn't want Windows Java users to have access to QuickTime as the QuickTime version 7.7.6 installer actually UNINSTALLS QuickTime for Java with no warning to the user.  The only fix is to install an earlier version of QuickTime, which they do not provide on their web site and is not so easy to find. Fortunately, I have a version 7.7.4 installer for Windows 7 (I don't know if it works on Windows 8) which you can download with this link:

https://www.cabrillo.edu/~dbrown/tracker/QuickTimeInstaller774.exe

I think you can use this even after you have installed version 7.7.6, but I am not certain.  Can you try it and let the discussion group know if it fixes the problem for you?  Thanks!

Doug

Hi Doug

I installed the version you suggested, and while it behaves differently, it still doesn't work. I can set the video engine to quicktime, but still can't see it in the about quicktime. I also cannot read the .MOV files.

FYI I have another computer, a MacBook Air with Yosemite, and on that I can read it with Apple Java 1.6.

Harold, check the C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre7\lib\ext folder and see if it contains the file QTJava.zip (this assumes your JRE path is C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre7, which you can confirm in the Tracker Help|Diagnostics|About Java dialog). If it does not, you may have to reinstall QuickTime and choose QuickTime for Java in the custom installation page. Or another option would be to download QTJava.zip from https://www.cabrillo.edu/~dbrown/tracker/code_libraries/QTJava.zip and put a copy in the JRE/lib/ext folder.

Hi Doug

Thanks this works. I think that QTJava has been deprecated by Apple though.
