The Physics Source website will be unavailable Friday evening through Saturday afternoon as electrical work occurs in the American Center of Physics server room. Down time will begin at 6PM Eastern Time on Friday. Service is expected to resume by 6PM on Saturday, July 30.
This applet shows the equipotential lines and the electric field lines for a single positive or negative charge, two equal positive or negative charges, two unequal like or unlike charges, and unequal unlike charges. The user can adjust the position of all the charges, as well as toggle between the display of electric field lines, electric field vectors, equipotential lines, and combinations of these. The effect on a test charge can also be observed.
This is part of a large collection of Physlet-based (Physics Java Applet) illustrations and tutorials covering introductory physics.
