Using Direct Measurement Video to Teach Physics - Jun 24, 2014
Direct Measurement Videos encourage active learning in introductory physics classes. Students can analyze real-world behavior using physics concepts and measurement tools included in the video. This material includes best practices for using these videos, a library of videos, and example class activities.
The Physics of Road Runner - Jun 1, 2014
This resource provides clips from Warner Brothers Road Runner and Coyote cartoons. Suggestions for use are included next to each clip. A Microsoft PowerPoint presentation based on the clips is also provided.
LTU Physlet: Presenting .. Your Equipotentials! - Nov 1, 2013
This applet shows the equipotential lines and the electric field lines for a single positive or negative charge, two equal positive or negative charges, two unequal like or unlike charges, and unequal unlike charges.
UVA Virtual Lab: Resistor Waterwheel Analogy - Dec 23, 2010
These pages provide a water model of an electrical circuit. In this case, the gerbil running in its wheel and the bucket pump are the equivalent of a battery. The water represents the electrons in the circuit. The height represents the voltage. The wheel represents the resistor. As the electrons fall from high to low, energy is available to do work.
PhET Simulation: Simplified MRI - Mar 12, 2010
This is an interactive simulation on the topic of Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI). The user can change the applied magnetic field and the RF signal and observe the effect on spins. In the NMR mode, the user can choose between various from among several atoms. In the MRI mode, the user can elect to add a tumor to the head being visualized.
Lens (thick lens) and mirror - Jan 27, 2009
This applet allows the user to make a lens or a mirror and observe its effect on distant light. The user can change the thickness, the curvatures, the diameter, the index of refraction of the lens, and the index of refraction of the surrounding medium. Several special cases are pre-programmed and can be invoked by clicking on a link.
PhET Simulation: Geometric Optics - Dec 27, 2008
This interactive java application allows you to investigate the properties of converging lenses. You can change the index of refraction, the diameter and the radius of curvature of the lens. You can also change the types of objects used and the types of rays shown.
PhET Simulations: Ladybug Revolution - Nov 10, 2008
This is PhET simulation on the topic of circular motion featuring one or two ladybugs. Users can change the various initial kinematics quantities and display time progression vectors, graphs and data of these kinematics quantities.
Mag Lab U: Learning about Electricity and Magnetism - Oct 7, 2008
This website featurs photo, video, and simulation galleries that explore the fascinating worlds of electricity and magnetism. This extensive library includes illustrated tutorials, historical facts, and applications to new technology.
Circuit Simulator Applet - Aug 2, 2008
The circuit simulator applet allows the user to virtually build and a test an infinite number of circuit configurations. The picture shows a full wave rectifier setup. The user can change the frequency, the waveform, the maximum voltage, the DC offset, the phase offset, the diode forward voltage, and the load resistance.
